Emilie LELONG – ISEM Roubaix – Graduating Class of 2012

What did you do before you came to ISEM? Did you always want to work in fashion?

Before I went to ISEM I was enrolled in the fencing section of the Center for High Level Athletics. This athletic center was the link between my high school where I was doing a baccalaureate degree in Science and Technology of Management, and my fencing training and competitions. Since I was very young, I knew I wanted to work in fashion. I couldn’t see myself working in any other field.

What do you think is special about ISEM and what are its strong points?

What is special about ISEM is that we talk about fashion in every class, whether it’s in our Marketing, English, or Legal classes. The teachers demonstrate a global vision of the world of fashion, but precisely targeted at the same time, for example when studying brands. Also, the fact that we discuss all areas of fashion (luxury or middle-market product, designers) helps us get an idea of where we might like to work. The teachers listen to what each of the students has to say, which is not the case in every school. This creates a special student-faculty bond.

Tell us about your career-path after ISEM, your jobs and responsibilities, past and present…

After ISEM I was hired for a job in the purchasing office MINT PARIS where I did my internship at the end of my studies. I was assistant buyer for SAKS (US, Mexico, Kazakhstan), DAVID JONES (Australia), and Hudson’s Bay (Canada). During fashion week, I would organize schedules for the brands’ buyers, and look for new brands and trends for them to consider. We would look at the collections of different brands and they would decide whether or not to order their products. Then I would ensure the safe delivery of the goods from country to country.
Now I’m working in the JV FASHION Showroom as saleswoman for ELEVEN Paris, PAUL’S BOUTIQUE, ELVINE, A QUESTION OF… I do the marketing for these brands. I make the link between multi-brand boutiques and the brands. For certain brands, I organize the exhibits and I handle communications. My work is very versatile.
