In honor of ESMOD’s 180th anniversary, we created an Award of Excellence to reward a student, alumni or employee’s project that is part of an innovative, ethical or sustainable initiative.

November 18th, during the 180th Anniversary Fashion Show, ESMOD awarded two former students, recognizing and encouraging their commitment their to humanitarian and eco-responsible projects. The President of the ESMOD International Group, Mr. Sarturo Nino, presented two Awards of Excellence this year:

  • Thomas Vasseur (ESMOD Roubaix Class of 2010 and Professor at ESMOD since 2017), was recognized for his project WELCOM(E). On December 11th at the Vestiaire (27 rue de l’Espérance, Roubaix,) Thomas organized an auction of unique designer pieces alongside one-of-a-kind upcycled garments made by ESMOD students. The proceeds of the auction were donated entirely to the L’Auberge des Migrants association, who helps refugees in Calais and neighboring areas. The money is to be used to purchased tents that will provide shelter.

  • Daniel Essa (ESMOD Damas Class of 2010,) founder of the eponymous brand of sneakers DANIEL ESSA, was given the Award of Excellence for his environmentally friendly production process that also respects human rights. A well-deserved achievement for a designer who has made a name for himself on the other side of the Atlantic thanks to his creativity and his innovative business model.

From now on, ESMOD will give this Award of Excellence every year to any project leader (student, alumni or associate) deserving recognition.
